This week we have been making some rocky road biscuits for our class entry to the Burnopfield Bake Off. Many of us are also going to be cooking at home and entering the competition with scones, cakes, biscuits or sweets.

Year 2 made broomsticks, wrote spells in invisible ink, made magic wands, designed a magic hat and created a poly juice potion as their hook in to their new topic - Magic and Mystery.
We made bridges that had a winding mechanism to lift the bridge to allow large boats to pass through. We had to work together in teams and use a range of tools and resources. We needed to measure carefully and test each stage of the design. Some parts were quite tricky.
Year 2 visited the Louisa Centre to take part in a multi-sports festival. The children got to try out lots of different activities and had lots of fun.
Today we used a bridge simulator to design some bridges. We needed to help a little workman get a box across the bridge. We thought about what we already know about bridges to help us. We used lots of triangle shapes to support our bridges. Great bridge building year 2! We visited the school library to find some non-fiction texts. We have talked about the features of non-fiction books such as contents page, index and glossary.
Next week we will be making our own non-fiction texts about keeping healthy. Year 2 visited the Discovery Museum in Newcastle. We found out information about old and more modern bridges over the River Tyne. Next we worked in groups to explore ways to make a strong bridge from paper. The concertina was the best and held all the pennies! We had great fun exploring the different areas of the museum and trying out the interactive tasks.
