We started with a circle that had a radius of 1m then we checked if 10 people could fit inside. Then we measured and cut off 10cm of wool so our circle had a radius of 90cm. We checked to see if 10 people could still fit in the circle! We continued cutting 10 cm off each time. The smallest circle that we could make that could still fit 10 people inside was a 40cm radius.

We used the net books to do some research about Queen Elizabeth I. Next we made a power point using the information we had discovered. We learned how add text and pictures then we chose a design effect for our slides. We set a timer for slide changes and we picked an effect for the slide transitions.
This week we looked at monarchy and what it means to be a monarch. We looked at different monarchs from throughout history. We then looked at the qualities of a monarch and what makes a good monarch. We thought about the qualities we would have if we were a monarch then we presented our ideas to the class.
Year 2 climbed to the top of the lighthouse which is 24 metres high. Souter was the first lighthouse in the world to be powered by electricity.
Year 2 had a great day exploring the Gibside Estate. They went on a mini beast hunt and discovered many creepy crawlies. They also spent time trying out the nature playscape and Strawberry Castle. Back in school they will use their experiences to generate ideas for poetry and artwork.
As part of our health and fitness week we had the chance to have some coaching from a professional cricket player! We practised throwing accurately over arm and under arm. Then we had our own games of batting and fielding in pairs using the cricket bats. We all had a great time and learned some new skills! Class 7 explored whether people with the longest strides would jump the furthest. First we measured our stride length. Next we jumped from a standing start. How far we had jumped was carefully measured. Later in the week we will make some graphs and charts of our results. We found out that the people with the longest strides did not jump the furthest! The whole school took part in a sponsored dancethon from 9.30am to 3pm. We had dance demonstrations from different groups, Emily taught classes some routines and there was also plenty of opportunity for some free dance moves.
